On the uncommon knowledge hypnotherapy diploma course we teach practical strategies to help people enhance their positive characteristics and diminish negative ones. I’ve just come across this article which discusses cultural attitudes to personal change (and the possibility of positive change) “Young children not only believe undesirable characteristics will transform into positive ones with maturation, they also believe that the positive characteristics a child possesses will remain stable over development.”
It seems Japanese adults are more optimistic concerning positive change in adults than are American adults. Overall the Japanese adults were more optimistic about changing negative traits to positive attributes. Again to quote from the article: “Someone who believes people can change is less likely to give up in the face of failure and succumb to feelings of helplessness,” she said. “Also, if you believe change is possible, you are more likely to encourage or support change in others.”
The beauty of working in solution focused hypnotherapy is that you see with your own eyes people maximizing and developing parts of themselves that are more flexible, determined, brave and optimistic. On the next diploma module we are teaching the rewind technique a fast track cure of phobias and traumatic memory there is little more positive demonstration that genuine positive change is sometimes achieved very rapidly (see snake phobia cure on youtube)
