heroin addiction and tasty substitutes

I remember helping to wean a heroin addict off heroin by focusing on her regaining her appetite for food. The side affect of her starting to cook and eat again was a gradual loss of interest in heroin. This article points to a similar pattern in heroin addicted rats!

It seems that so much of addiction has to do with the perceived meeting of need. Once needs are met more healthily then the addictive pattern can start to fall away. See also ‘Are you in a smoking cult?’
