How to get what you want

Ok the headline to this blog is a little attention grabbing I’ll admit. Appealing to greed can be as powerful as appealing to need. Well it depends on what we need or think we need or want. Wanting without preparedness for effort is a no win strategy. In Self discipline and mental health I argue that there is a real danger of learning only to do things that we ‘feel like doing.’

If we are only willing to do what feels comfortable at any given point we deny ourselves the opportunity to develop true grit, determination and self discipline. ‘Only do what feels comfortable’ may be alright in some contexts but if we apply that to everything we cosset, pander and wimpify (excuse my creative use of word invention) ourselves.

Skills that Lead to Higher Wages: Discipline and motivation enables graduates to earn more. neatly shows how self discipline can compensate for lower innate IQ.
