Self perception and health

‘Decades of studies show that people who say their health is poor are likely to die sooner than those who rate their health excellent, even after controlling for how sick people actually are’. According to this article how healthy you perceiveyourself to be may be more important than how healthy you are deemed to be by medical professionals. Actually the article seems to be saying two things. Firstly that we are more attuned to our own fluctuations in health than any physician can possibly be and the stress of long term pessimism can produce disease whilst the body benifits from optimism

We at Uncommon Knowledge advocate the constructive use of attitude and hypnosis to build healthier lives. How long you feel that you are going to live maybe more of a deciding factor in how long you will actually live than used to be thought.

Mark.
