They call us lonely when we are really just alone

Mm I think the title to this blog comes from an eighties pop song. Of course I’m far too young to remember it myself ; ) Do you get lonely or do you enjoy ‘alone time?’

On the Uncommon Knowledge hypnotherapy diploma we teach about basic emotional needs and how vital they are in maintaining mental and physical health. We certainly all have a strong need to connect to other human beings but also a need to be able to calm down, sit quietly, reflect and yes, dare I say it, be alone sometimes.

Some people fear being alone feeling perhaps that it inevitably means feeling lonely but of course it doesn’t. If we are able to be alone sometimes without having to be connected constantly to others then we can gain personal confidence and a real sense of healthy autonomy. This article ‘Solitude VS loneliness’ has some great things to say on this.
