Training director catches herself playing with pipe cleaner dolls

Oh deary deary me, have you ever been earnestly applying yourself to a task then suddenly you mentally step back and see how daft it all seems?

Well I did that yesterday! I caught myself chatting away to pipe cleaner dolls…….worse to come……. I was on my own.

After a little chuckle at my apparent madness; I consoled myself that the reason was because when Mark or I teach a new concept or technique we make sure that we cover all different learning styles. and I was practising doing just that! (honest)

People learn visually, kinesthetically, through listening or a mix of these; the variations makes us think really hard about the best way to convey knowledge and skills. New ideas need to be easily absorbed by our hypnotherapy students and that means making it memorable.

When we teach the rewind technique next weekend, we talk about the high level principles of why it is so effective in treating trauma, we demonstrate it, then the students go off into groups of six. Working with a supervisor they use the dolls to cement their understanding of what they are asking the client to imagine; then we guide them through the hypnotic language that holds the technique together.

Although we all have lots of fun during this session, the students come out from that day’s training with the knowledge of how to safely treat people who have Post Traumatic Stress Disorder or phobias. The client finds complete relief in just one session, life changing stuff ! And all whilst the client is relaxed and comfortable.

So dolls, stories from all over the world, personal anecdotes, balloons and peas, there is no end to our unconventional training materials :)
