Violence and basic needs

This article talks about violence and values. The basic idea is that if you value status highly you are more likely to be violent and if you value ‘universalism’ or give and sharing in communities then you are more likely to try to avoid violence. This may be true but I also think that if someone’s’ need for say status isn’t met healthily they will try to meet the need in damaging ways. We need to understand basic needs as much as values in order to understand violence as well as knowing about peer pressure and ’social proof’.
